Everything Has a Voice, Even Tattoos!

By Peggy River Singer

Recently I bought a book on tattoos at an estate sale, which I intended to sell on eBay. Back at home, I was looking through the book and suddenly heard: "Each tattoo has its own energy, as an expression of creativity." To my surprise, the tattoos themselves started to chatter, and I was writing as fast as I could to record their comments.

And then I heard: "We tell STORIES!" This voice sounded youthful, excited about the opportunity to speak.

I invite you to share the results of this extraordinary connection with Otherfolk...

Peggy: This is a new experience for me! Will I be talking with individual tattoos, or a representative?

Tattoos: We perceive the possibility of overwhelm-ment of your system if we all talk at once. Selected representatives will process and present answers to your questions. We hope this arrangement is agreeable?

Peggy: Absolutely, thank you. Where would you like to start?

Tattoos: It is known to us that humans have engaged in various forms of self-decoration from the very beginning of human existence. Do you wish to discuss that approach, or only decorations done by applying ink, dyes, and similar substances to—and within—the skin?

Peggy: I'd like to keep the discussion limited to the processes with inks and dyes, please.

Tattoos: Splendid. I shall clarify at this time that there is a form of shared awareness among all designs referred to as "tattoos." Such connections are most easily shared with designs of similar energies.

Peggy: It is said that what we humans imagine, we create. The more detailed the imagining is, the more strength is given to the creation.

Tattoos: Exactly. You see this process demonstrated by a client who knows exactly what she wants, and describes it in great detail to the artist; such as a design commemorating a loved one.

Peggy: Do tattoos have any ability to take any kind of action on their own, or do they simply exist?

Tattoos: [chuckling] If one's existence can be described as "simple," then that is the appropriate answer. There is no need or desire for a tattoo to be "active" in any fashion. They simply ARE what they are. But they all originate in what you might call a "cloud" of Beingness composed of highly evolved creative impulses seeking expression. These individual impulses are matched with the desire and intentions of an artist to create each tattoo.

Peggy: I've seen many people who have extensive, interwoven designs that might cover their whole arm, or their back. What is the manner of interaction among such a complex group of designs?

Tattoos: As you might expect, there is a level of awareness of nearby designs.

Peggy: What if a very positive design, like an angel, is positioned next to a design that is perceived as negative, such as a bloody knife?

Tattoos: The interpretations and judgments you have just described have no significance to the tattoos themselves. To repeat: they simply ARE.

Peggy: What is the relationship between the ink substances and the machines and other tools used to apply the substances?

Tattoos: Simple awareness of the other. You are wondering whether there is a spirit of "Let's work together to complete this design." There is not.

Peggy: It seems like the artist, the concept, the materials and tools, and of course the skin, must work together to create a successful tattoo.

Tattoos: I shall say that for the artist who is working in flow, all the elements interact harmoniously as directed by his or her artistic methodology and knowledge of what to do. That is very different from all the physical elements choosing to work together, you see.

Peggy: Since the skin is considered a living thing with its own senses, does it have a choice as to whether to submit to the tattooing process?

Tattoos: Here you have a situation where the human makes a choice for a tattoo or a piercing, which is then applied to the body. [Pause] We have discussed, and we will say that it seems like the skin or flesh must go along with the human's desires. However, this is only an educated guess. Perhaps you should address the skin directly to get a solid answer.

Peggy: Thank you... May I speak with my skin, please?

Skin: We are aware of the conversation and the question. We do not have a presence or awareness as you would understand those terms. However, as you well know from your experience of getting your ears pierced many years ago, it is perfectly possible for the BODY to express unwillingness to accept such procedures. This unwillingness takes the form of repeated infections, failure to "heal", and so forth. So, the body can defend itself even if the mind decides to undergo such a procedure.

Peggy: What happens when a person tries to get a tattoo removed?

Skin: Even if apparently removed, the energetic "signature" is everlasting. Such is the nature of the power of creation.

Peggy: Thank you, skin! Tattoos, is there anything else you'd like to say to those who will read these words?

Tattoos: We have enjoyed this talking and expressing, and we wish you well in your continued growth.
